DOING ANYTHING TONIGHT?

Tonight sees the launch of a huge new club night in Manchester called Clockwork. The brainchild of two stalwarts of the city's club scene, this promises to be a night of quality music in a notably intimate venue.

What makes this even more exciting is that Pan-Pot have been booked to play in a rare trip to the north of the country! If you've got no plans at such short notice on a Thursday evening you should make sure you get yourself there and if you do have plans then cancel them because Clockwork is the only thing that people are going to be talking about this weekend anyway.

Tickets from here.

To get you in the mood you should prick up your ears to Joel's September 'Tropics' mix because its awesome.

He was always there when you needed him.
His advice was always faultless.

WINTER GEAR

The nights have been drawing in for a while now so you should have your eyes fixed on the winter collections which are being released from all angles to make sure you can really impress down at the dancehall/gallery/fruit market.

This post only focuses on shoes and hats though I'm afraid.

First up is this simple headwear option from The Hundreds whose collections are becoming nearly as large as recent releases by Obey.

Another simple noggin-topper from the same collection has a nice military style logo incorporating a nostalgic motto of the brand.

We shadowboxers do have a soft spot for anything Mishka and their new additions are worthy of mention here. Death Adders for life.

Follow on so your feet don't get cold.

HOT

I remember dancing to this in my front room when I was a duckling. I still love all of the bright colours and the way the puppet ho's gyrate.

A wonderful cover.

BREAKFAST

Howdy there. I'm The Mallard.

This video makes my beak tingle. But everything drawn by Parra has that effect on me so maybe I shouldn't be surprised. This song has it all for me: its crude, upbeat and offensive and I think you should check it out.

I especially like the part about the jam on his bread because I do love laying on my back in my pond whilst hyperactive youngsters throw mouldy crusts my way.

Joel Roberts

Look at him go.

This guy is Joel Roberts whose mixes are definitely worth checking out. We've played these mixes during bbq's, intense games of Articulate as well as before and after going out and on each occasion they have got everyone excited. My favourite is definitely the May mix which I cannot stop listening to.

You can download them from his SoundCloud page and enjoy them anywhere you like.

CAPZZZZZ

Now that the sun is out properly you need to sort yourself out with a cap/lid/flag. Luckily there are loads out there which help guard your precious skin from sunburn but that are also so fresh that you'll be the envy of your fellow bbq-ers.

Here's some of my favourites:

Mishka always have awesome designs and a new colour combination for this much-loved Death Adders design works really nicely.

(Huit Rectangles, 2007)

Felice Varini is a Swiss artist who has been making incredible 'perspective-localized' art for over three decades now. His website has all of his work and its well worth a look through, although be warned, it's in French.
To have a look go here and click on 'index chronologique'. To see a how a particular piece was done, click 'hors point de vue' at the bottom of the page.
A few more after the break.

The First Of Many Rants; StarSuckers

Everybody should watch this film. Something is fundamentally wrong with western society and it's only getting worse.
The film was shown on More4 earlier tonight and it made me feel sick. Hopefully it'll be on 4oD or repeated over the next few days if you want to catch it. Failing that, you can preorder it on DVD here.
If you've ever seen the Channel 4 comedy Nathan Barley or the Luke Wilson film Idiocracy (both of which I recommend) you'll find them scarily similar to the truth displayed in this documentary.

Nathan Barley treat after the break.
